Mush

Mush

Frequently asked questions about how to utilize mushrooms & extracts.

  • Mushrooms are quite versatile; they are great roasted, sautéed, or even grilled!

if you are looking for a simple & quick way to try out mushrooms, then we suggest this preparation:

    • heat pan over medium heat with oil of choice

    • rough chop mushrooms

    • add mushrooms to hot pan & cook until moisture has been released from the ‘shrooms

    • then turn the heat up to medium/high and let them crisp up around the edges

    • serve with pasta/grains, meat, or top your salad & enjoy!

  • in theory, yes. but you can overdo it on anything, even water.

mushrooms are full of trace minerals. an ill-effect that we have seen/heard of from eating culinary mushrooms is acute selenium toxicity: a guy ate multiple handfuls of Brazil nuts and then went to a mushroom dinner party and ate multiple plates-full of mushroom preparations. he then got nausea and went to the hospital where they gave him activated charcoal.

so moral of that story is listen to the recommended dosage amounts and don’t eat more than a handful of Brazil nuts if you eat mushrooms regularly :)

the other ill-effect we have hear of was an old mushroom forager from out west ate mushrooms for almost every meal for decades (Cat thinks it was about 30 years), and eventually his body could not handle that food anymore and he built an intolerance to all mushrooms :(

the moral of this story? don’t eat mushrooms 3x/day everyday for 30 years…. that also just sounds boring.

  • in food amounts, no. in tincture/tea amounts, no (exception for chaga: see below)

however, if you are diabetic, or take medication for blood sugar, then please check in with your doctor BEFORE consuming CHAGA tea or tincture MORE REGULARLY as it can significantly drop blood sugar levels.

some mushrooms can actually help medications work better! for example: turkey tail can potentiate the effects of chemotherapy & possibly even lessen side effects.

if you are unsure: keep amounts low (1 cup fresh is good for daily consumption) until you can check win with your PCP.

  • Again, everything in moderation. There are dosing guidelines on the tincture bottles and in the tincture section (https://www.wildfruitings.com/tinctures) on the website: 1-3 dropper-fulls per day.

1 cup of fresh lions mane = 1 dropper full of lions mane tincture

we also suggest taking periodic breaks from your extracts every couple m

onths to help prevent tolerance build up.

  • do you have history with diabetes or low blood sugar? or if you are worried, then ask your Primary Care Physician.

if these are not issues for you, then as long as you keep amounts in moderation, no need to worry.

because chaga is an endangered species, we keep foraging and consumption to the winter months. its one way we keep consumption and over-harvesting in moderation.

Tinctures

Tinctures

Our tinctures are double-extracted with alcohol and water combined to give you a potent dose of mushroom in every dropper-full.

  • first: shake it really well!

then: squeeze the rubber dropper top to fill the dropper vile.

next: squirt the whole dropper under your tongue & hold for as long as you can (up to 45 seconds) then swallow

    lastly: get shroomy (*not trippy)

  • that is a very sensitive spot where the tincture can enter your bloodstream quickly! If that is too intense for you, squirting the tincture into some water, your morning cuppa, or a smoothie will still give you all the benefits from the tincture as well.

  • typical dosage is 1-3 dropper-fulls per day.

you can take most tinctures at any time of day. some find cordyceps to be stimulating, so if you are trying this one for the first time, do it in the morning.

Hydrosols

Hydrosols

Hydrosols are steam-distilled plant and mushrooms. We use a small copper still to extract the aromatic essence of the plant or mushroom to create a water-based product with essential oils. This is actually the first step to making essential oils. Hydrosols are a more ecological way to incorporate essential oil aromatics into your day to day since they use less plant material plus they are already diluted to a safe level to put on your skin!

  • Eastern white pine has antimicrobial properties, and contains vitamin A & C that are great for the skin, and also encourages tranquility in your environment.

  • Rose is astringent and soothing, great for helping tone the skin and to help heal burns, and encouraging self love.

  • Reishi is full of polysaccharides, and reduces free radical damage, great for preventing environmental stressors on the skin and keeping you youthful.

  • Mugwort is known for having antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, and also know for dropping the “veil” of reality for people that feel foggy and groggy and refreshing your view.

  • Lilac is a potent anti inflammatory and cooling ally. Lilac flowers promote firmness and elasticity in the skin and spirit encouraging purity and introspection.
